These programs provide facilitator training for community prevention initiatives such as Kids Connection Groups, Youth Connection Groups, and Faith-Based Connection Groups. The training is made available to help increase the number of volunteer facilitators in the three-county region and ensure services continue regardless of funding. These programs provide services to youth from ages 5 to 18 who have a substance abuse family history or who live with other chronic stresses. It is designed to reduce the youth’s risk of substance abuse by intervening in their social and personal development. Living skills and healthy alternatives are taught to replace the harmful behaviors that have been necessary for them to cope with their environment.
Youth Connection groups are also made available to enhance life skills to high-risk juveniles in such a way as to help decrease the number of youth violating their probation order and/or being rearrested.
